Mothering Justice Action Fund (MJAF) is a statewide grassroots project in Michigan dedicated to returning decision-making power to mothers of color with a goal of shaping a healthy future for Michigan families through policies and elections.

MJAF has conducted ongoing virtual campaigning and advocacy over the past year, crafting, leading, and winning the first ballot initiative in MI for paid leave; securing expanded rights for nursing moms (including fighting exploitation from formula companies); and helping increase the minimum wage, and returned to on-the-ground, in-person engagement with vigor in 2022.

The organization’s strategy is centered on meeting mothers of color where they are through joyful connections and events to become true partners in community engagement, voter education, voter mobilization, GOTV, and election protection.

With a goal of cultivating a list of 20,000 active women of color voters, MJAF will inspire participation through long-term year-round engagement in and beyond election cycles and rooted in shared values across identities to usher in collective change and increased agency at the ballot box for Michigan families and women of color.
