Rye Young is the head of Rye Young Consulting. As a consultant, Rye works with individual donors and philanthropic institutions to deeply align their values with their practices and to invest boldly and strategically in social justice movements. Rye became grounded in social justice philanthropy over ten years at Third Wave Fund (formerly Third Wave Foundation) where he entered the work as an intern in 2008 and left having served as Executive Director for five years.
Under his leadership, Third Wave Fund was brought back from the brink of financial collapse following the Great Recession and continues to thrive as the only youth-led fund in the U.S. that resources and supports feminist, queer, and trans organizations led by young people of color.
Rye serves on the boards of Funders for LGBTQ Issues as the secretary, URGE: Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity, and the Freeman Foundation, and previously served on the boards of Funders Concerned About AIDS, Groundswell Fund, and the New York Abortion Access Fund.
Rye was a Grace Paley Organizing Fellow with Jews for Racial and Economic Justice where he organized employers of domestic workers to advocate for the New York Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights. Rye graduated from Bard College with a B.A. in Arabic Language, Culture, and Literature and attended the Institute of Culinary Education. In his alternate life, Rye is an aspiring chef!
