What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Creating a space for leaders to grow in our organization, and helping to elect community rooted leaders to pass innovative policy in New Mexico.
What myths would you like to break in your organization’s work?
That community members aren’t capable of becoming policy experts.
What does it take to build power?
It takes coalition and community. It also takes a bold willingness to upend lopsided political relationships to forge stronger relationships rooted in aligned values, shared policy goals, and, ultimately, co-governance. It’s forgoing crumbs in order to fight for something greater.
What is your why?
Knowing that the roots of power were not meant for people like me, and yet I have every right to change the trajectory of the generations that come after me.
